BRAC realignment deadline arrives, but many workers still on the move
Sept. 15 is the day that BRAC realignments were supposed to be completed, but the deadline has arrived with thousands of workers still awaiting relocation.
As part of the plan, thousands of defense workers are moving to new locations in Northern Virginia. Although some employees are already in their new offices, many are not.
The move of thousands of Department of Defense workers to several sites in the area, including Mark Center in Alexandria, has continued over the past several weeks, but several thousand more are still slated to make the shift.
In the meantime, police have been out directing traffic and implementing new traffic patterns near I-395, Seminary Road and other streets that surround the office complex.
6,400 workers are expected to have their jobs shifted to Mark Center by the end of the BRAC move. Thousands have already had their workplace shifted to Ft. Belvoir from the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
