September 22, 2011 - 04:27 am
Three people are hospitalized Thursday morning after a two-alarm apartment fire in Columbia.
Flames broke out on the first floor of a three-story building in the 5600 block of Stevens Forest Road about 1:30 a.m.
Howard County fire officials say crews used ladders to rescue several residents trapped on the above floors.
Seven people were injured in the blaze, with four treated at the scene while two adults and a child were transported to a local hospital. Authorities say their injuries aren’t considered to be life-threatening.
In total, 10 units were affected and 34 residents were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross is helping to find temporary shelter for them.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
