Defense blasts 'one-sided' re-enactment in Aruba
September 20, 2011 - 07:07 am
ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AP) - A lawyer for a U.S. man detained in Aruba is criticizing prosecutors' re-enactment of the purported drowning of his client's travel partner.
Defense lawyer Michael Lopez says Monday's re-enactment was "one-sided" because authorities ignored some of Gary Giordano's statements about what happened to 35-year-old Robyn Gardner. Lopez also complains he wasn't allowed to videotape the exercise.
Giordano has been detained on suspicion of involvement in Gardner's presumed death. Authorities say the re-enactment was to test Giordano's account of what happened to Gardner.
Giordano says Gardner apparently drowned while they were snorkeling of the southern tip of the Dutch Caribbean island. Her body has not been found.
