Exit to I-66 West from Capital Betlway shutting down
September 30, 2011 - 05:21 am
The traffic pattern at one of the most congested portions of the Capital Beltway is changing once again.
Starting Saturday, the left exit onto I-66 West from the Inner Loop of the Beltway will be closed. The right exit ramp now has two lanes to accommodate exiting traffic.
VDOT is closing the exit to accommodate work onto a new HOT lanes connector ramp. Drivers will now be required to use Exit 49A to made the connection, a right exit that already exists.
HOT lanes work has already caused significant traffic disruptions in that section of the Beltway near Tysons Corner.
The $1.4 billion project is expected to be completed in 2012.
