Fairfax County adds 23 professional firefighters

FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) - Nearly two dozen recruits will join the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Service as professional firefighters following graduation ceremonies Friday night in Fairfax.
The 23 recruit firefighters have been training since April to respond to hazardous materials incidents, emergency vehicle extrications, swift water rescue, confined space rescue, fire suppression, and emergency medical incidents.
The firefighters will join a professional uniformed staff of nearly 1,400 serving the county's more than 1 million residents.
