Fairfax County ends fiscal year with $100M surplus

SPRINGFIELD, Va. (AP) - The largest county in the Washington metropolitan area is ending the fiscal year with a surplus.
WTOP-FM reports (http://bit.ly/p2EPEJ ) Fairfax County ended the 2010-2011 fiscal year with a $100 million surplus in a $3.3 billion budget.
Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Sharon Bulova says most of the money will be carried over into the current budget to protect against a slow economy, but county employees will get a 1.5 percent cost-of-living increase.
