Firefighters hurt while battling College Park fires
Two firefighters were injured while battling two fires in College Park.
At about 10:15 p.m. Sunday, flames broke out at a home in the 7300 block of Baylor Avenue in the Yarrow community. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy fire on the first floor. It took about 30 minutes to knock down the blaze, which caused about $175,000 in damage.
Officials say two firefighters suffered minor burn injuries, and were taken to the Burn Unit at Washington Hospital Center.
Another person was burned while leaving the home, but was not transported.
Officials say a family is displaced.
A short while later, crews rushed to another fire at the College Park Honda Dealership on Baltimore Avenue.
Around 11:30 p.m., firefighters found smoke billowing from the 2-story building. The fire was out in about 15 minutes.
No injuries were reported, but the fire caused $100,000 damage to the structure.
The cause of the fires remains under investigation.
