Several local schools have been included in U.S. News and World Report's list of the top 10 "Up and Coming" schools in the United States.
The publication defines an up and coming school based on the ideals of promising and innovative changes in academics and student life.
George Mason University in Fairfax came in as the #2 "Up and Coming" school in America, while the University of Maryland-College Park ranked as tied for 8th with several other schools.
Just north of the D.C. metro area, the University of Maryland-Baltimore County was named the top school in the rankings.
