Marion Barry's 2011 turkey giveaway comes with new requirements
September 30, 2011 - 08:29 am
(AP, ABC7) — D.C. Council member Marion Barry says residents of his ward will have to satisfy a few requirements before they can get a free turkey this Thanksgiving.
Barry is requiring would-be turkey recipients to pre-register for a bird. In addition, parents of school-age children will need to attend parent-teacher conferences and PTA meetings in the weeks leading up to the holiday.
Other residents will have to prove they are registered to vote and attend community meetings.
Both groups also must show proof of residency in Ward 8.
Barry says 1,000 turkeys will be given to seniors without any stipulations.
