WASHINGTON (AP) - More than 100 Metro employees are provided vehicles owned by the transit agency that they can drive home each day.

According to information The Washington Examiner (http://bit.ly/pKfkYL) obtained through a public records request, 116 agency employees have vehicles they take home.

Of those, 88 are mid-level managers and superintendents in the bus, rail, track maintenance and engineering divisions. The remaining 28 employees with take-home vehicles are assigned to Metro Transit Police.

Metro spokesman Dan Stessel says the cars can only be used for job-related trips and are given to essential workers who must be able to respond anywhere in the agency's service area. The workers may need to travel before the system opens or to reach construction sites or tracks that don't have direct transit service.
