Metro escalator repairs to be sped up
As broken-down escalators continue to cause problems throughout Metro, WMATA announced Thursday that they're accelerating their repair schedule.

Metro's Deputy General Manager for Operations David Kubicek told the Metro Board the Authorities repair efforts have resulted in the doubling of out of service hours for escalators throughout the system.
"In the long run, customers will have more reliable escalators," Kubicek said.
WMATA says that contracting out a select amount of escalator work will help speed up the process. New personnel could be in place by early 2012.
Kubicek also said that the three escalators at the 19th Street entrance of the Dupont Circle station will be replaced early next year. That entrance will have to be closed, though, to install them. Details on the entrance closure will be announced this fall.
