September 19, 2011 - 10:39 am
Michael Gardner, husband of former Falls Church mayor and current council member Robin Gardner, appeared in court today for a pre-trial motion hearing. He is accused of sexually abusing three young girls.
Gardner, 47, is accused of aggravated sexual battery and object sexual penetration after assaults on two girls, ages 9 and 10 on June 18 at his daughter's birthday slumber party in the basement of their Falls Church home.
A motion was granted Monday to delay jury trial until next year, Jan. 23, 2012. He was originally scheduled to begin Oct. 3, 2011.
Gardner served as a local chair of a Democratic committee and neighbors described him as an introvert.
