Mothers shave off hair for cancer
Three dozen mothers are shaving their heads in honor of the brave children battling cancer.
Cancer survivor Gina Mulieri has been bald for four years while she was being treated.
“I like that my head's not hot in the summer and I don't have to style my hair in the morning,” she said, looking at the upside of a bald head.
Within hours, her mother will know how it feels. She's among 46 mothers from around the country who are shaving their heads to raise money for pediatric cancer research.
“I mourned my brush,” Bonnie Mulieri said, but “If I can get one more dollar… I don't need the brush.”
Danielle Leach lost her son Mason to cancer when he was 5 years old. She organized the head-shaving event and will also loose her hair in front of hundreds of people at Union Station.
“It's time for them to get involved,” Leach said. “It's time for them to care what these kids are going through.”
Amy Brennfoerder felt helpless when the doctors told her her 3-year-old son Kaiden had a brain tumor. Raising money by going bald makes her feel she's doing something.
“I always thought I’ll wear my bald head,” she said. “Loud and proud.”
