A motorist was injured when he attempted to drive a vehicle through a washed out section of a road in Davidsonville, Maryland, police said.
At 7:38 a.m., Anne Arundel County Fire personnel responded to a vehicle that became trapped in a washed out section of the roadway at Patuxent River and Queen Anne Bridge roads.
Firefighters worked to free a 56-year-old man using specialized rescue tools. He was freed in 15 minutes and taken to shock trauma in Baltimore via a State Police helicopter.
He suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
The affected section was 20 feet by 30 feet by 10 feet deep. It was not clear whether the washed out section had been blocked off.
