The Washington Nationals are partnering with the Wounded Warrior amputee softball team, a team made up of members of the military who have lost a limb in the course of their service.

The newly renamed Washington Nationals Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team made its public debut at Nats Park Sunday in an exhibition game after the Nats-Mets series finale.

Veterans and active-duty military members from across the U.S. play in the amputee softball team. Each has suffered a leg, foot or arm amputation during service since the 9/11 attacks. The team was created earlier this year by coach David Van Sleet to bring attention to the sacrifice and resilience of military service members.

Nationals owner Mark D. Lerner called the team a ”remarkable group of active duty and veteran service members, who encourage all of us to face our own challenges with the same tenacity as they have."
