Off-duty officer assists in robbery arrest
An off-duty D.C. police officer helped arrest the suspects in an armed robbery in the 3200 block of Pennsylvania Avenue Southeast.
The officer was in his car at about 9:45 Sunday when he saw two men in hooded sweatshirts with the hoods over their heads run out of a convenience store and into a parking lot.
The owner of the store called 911 to report a robbery, saying the suspects were wearing hooded sweatshirts. The detective heard the report over his portable radio and when police units arrived, told them where the men had ran.
One suspect was caught immediately, the second after a brief foot chase, police said in a news release. Police found a sweatshirt, two mask and a loaded 38. caliber revolver and ammunition.
The suspects were arrested and charged with armed robbery. Police have identified them as two males, 28 and 30 years of age, who reside in the 1500 block of 28th Street and the 400 block of Ridge Road Southeast.
