September 11 shaped military kids who grew up with war
FORT STEWART, Ga. (AP) - Children of American military families who were just youngsters during the 9/11 terror attacks say growing up in wartime has helped shape the adults they're becoming.
The Associated Press interviewed some of those who grew up with one or both parents deployed and facing dangers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Austin Trosper, the 17-year-old son of an Army sergeant at Fort Stewart, Ga., wants to work with animals after volunteering at a humane shelter while his father was in Iraq.
At Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, 17-year-old Codi Schneider hopes to become a journalist or filmmaker and share his story as the son of a military bomb disposal expert.
Alexis Werner, a 20-year-old midshipman at the U.S. Naval Academy in Maryland, is following both of her parents into the Navy.
