The Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure kicked off and women and men from all over, converged on the nation's capital to walk for a cure to breast cancer.

ABC7's Greta Kreuz was at the walkers' campsite to talk with survivors and people who have lost loved ones to breast cancer.

And they were marchers on a mission: raising money to find a cure for breast cancer:

"I had a double mastectomy," says Karen Dent, a breast cancer survivor. "And chemo and radiation...stage 3 cancer. But I'm a five-year survivor!."

Every three minutes another case is diagnosed and there's not a moment to lose.

There's plenty of pink there, and cheers of support. But this is a sad, serious disease.

Patrick Miner lost his wife Rita just two weeks ago. She was only 33.

"I know Rita's excited," Miner said. "I know she's looking down and she's clapping, so I'm here clapping for her."

Breast cancer was the theme, too, at the 8th annual Living in Pink fundraiser.

Emceed by Greta Kreuz. The event raised $600,000 for research.

Michele Conley, who founded Living in Pink, is herself a two-time survivor.

"Even when things are really difficult, and you've been diagnosed with breast cancer, you can still live a wonderful life and you can still go on," Conley said.

So, even in the rain, the walkers in pink will cover 60 miles in three days.
