A 17-year-old boy tried to shoot a sleeping man in the head Saturday in Woodbridge, Va., police said.

At 7:09 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a shooting in the 15700 block of Beau Ridge Drive in Woodridge, police said.

Investigations revealed the teen shot a 49-year-old family member in the back of his head while he slept.

The shooting appeared to have stemmed from past fights between the man and the teen.

The man was treated at an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The teen, whose identity was not released, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, malicious wounding and the use of a firearm in commission of a felony. He is being charged as a juvenile.
