Testimony resumes in Tysons Corner murder trial
Updated: September 28, 2011 - 06:08 pm
The Commonwealth has rested its case in the prosecution of Carmela Dela Rosa, the grandmother on trial for allegedly killing her granddaughter.
The mother of the victim, Mary Kathlyn Ogdoc, described in tearful detail how Dela Rosa suddenly picked two year Angelyn as the family walked toward the sixth floor parking deck at Tysons Corner.
Without a word, Dela Rosa then allegedly briskly walked to the railing.
Ogdoc said through sobs, "She had picked up Angelyn, then I saw her by the railing and I didn't see Angelyn."
Several members of jury were seen wiping tears from their eyes during the young mother's testimony.
On Tuesday, jurors heard a taped confession from Carmela Dela Rosa as she told detectives that she felt unloved by her family and jealous of the attention her granddaughter received.
During the trial, jurors also saw surveillance video showing the woman throwing her granddaughter off the skywalk to the pavement six floors below.
The courtroom was silent and the jurors watched on monitors in the jury box, one for every two jurors.
Dela Rosa, sat silently showing no emotion. Relatives of the child were crying.
