KNOXVILLE, Md. (AP) - Emergency responders say two fishermen are safe after they were rescued from the rising Potomac River near Knoxville.

Brunswick Volunteer Fire Company Chief Roy Lipscomb says the men had waded into the river Monday night and then found the water too high to safely return to the bank.

Lipscomb says swift-water technicians responded around 10:45 p.m. and found one of the anglers in the water and the other on a rock.

He says the rescuers got personal flotation devices to the men and brought them back to land.

Lipscomb says both men refused medical treatment.

He says the river is expected to continue rising this week, so people should be careful near the water.
