Virginia Hospital Center staff recalls September 11 attacks
The Virginia Hospital Center, a few miles from the Pentagon, became the primary hospital for treating victims of the 9/11 attacks.
And today the staff relived those moments while watching a video tribute to heroes and victims. They recalled that there were many burn victims and one woman had a broken leg after jumping from a second-story window.
Chief Matthew Herbert was among the first firefighters to arrive at the burning Pentagon.
“I remember driving and seeing this huge column of smoke,” Herbert said.
Many Volunteers came in - joining 50 doctors and more than 100 nurses. They treated 44 victims at the hospital while their nearby urgent care center treated another 10.
A decade later, It's teamwork and compassion that they remember most about that day and refuse to dwell on fear.
