Wounded Warriors receiving new golf clubs, new gear
McLEAN, Va. (AP) — Soldiers wounded in combat in Afghanistan and Iraq are getting help with their golf games in an effort to promote physical and emotional recovery.
Eight soldiers who are members of the Wounded Warrior Project will get custom-fitted clubs and other golf gear Friday at the new Golfsmith store in the Tysons Corner area.
They'll try out their equipment at the store before heading to nearby 1757 Golf Club to play a round.
The veterans are from the Washington area and were wounded during recent tours of duty. For some, the new equipment will help them start playing golf again.
Others are taking up golf as part of the recovery process. Some have lost limbs while serving overseas, and the equipment will be tailored to any challenges created by their injuries.
