Three local streets named among nation's '10 Great Streets'
October 4, 2011 - 06:26 am
(AP, ABC7) - The main drag in Old Town Alexandria has been recognized as one of America's "10 Great Streets."
The American Planning Association says King Street in Alexandria has exceptional historic character and serves as a thriving commercial center and gathering place.
D.C.'s U Street and Davis street in Culpeper also made the list.
King Street predates the American Revolution and has extensive ties to the Founding Fathers, especially George Washington, who lived a few miles away at Mount Vernon.
The city plans to celebrate King Street's designation Tuesday night.
