RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Herman Cain is the latest Republican presidential hopeful to audition in battleground state Virginia, rallying a crowd of about 1,000 social conservatives at a Saturday night soiree.
Cain is addressing the Family Foundation's annual fundraising gala in Richmond. He signed copies of his latest book, "This is Herman Cain: My Journey to the White House," earlier in Lynchburg.
Cain, the former Godfather's Pizza CEO, is trying to emerge from a crowded field of GOP contenders led for now by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
In the past month, Perry and Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann have spoken at Liberty University in Lynchburg.
President Barack Obama hasn't ignored Virginia either. He spoke in Richmond last month and plans four Virginia stops on his two-state October bus tour.
