Can yoga help chronic back pain?
October 26, 2011 - 06:18 pm
Millions of Americans know the suffering of chronic back pain. Many of them seek relief and peace of mind through yoga class.
Now a study in the Archives of Internal Medicine adds yoga to the list for its physical benefits. But, not it's mental components.
The study looked at 230 patients with chronic back pain divided into three groups.
One group took weekly yoga classes while one group took stretching exercise classes. A third group received a book on self-care.
After three months, the yoga group reported better results than those who had the self-care book. But they weren’t more effective in improving reducing symptoms than regular stretching.
