Surrounded by the very buildings they work in, hundreds of local office cleaners are holding a rally just days before they plan to drop their brooms and mops and walk off the job.

"The day before we go on strike we will be handing out toilet paper,” said union leader Jaime Contreras.

Father of four Ellery Johnson is planning to strike when his contract expires at midnight Sunday. The union representing him and others is demanding wage increases, fewer staffing cuts and health-care benefits for more workers.

The companies that employ workers say they're struggling because of the weak economy and can't meet those demands. Union leaders say shame on them.

"It seems to me that everyone is making money on America,” Contreras said.
