D.C. Council to examine grass-cutting contracts
October 7, 2011 - 07:07 am
WASHINGTON (AP) - The D.C. Council is set to examine the city's grass-cutting contracts.
Councilmembers have scheduled an oversight roundtable for Friday.
Two editorials this week in The Washington Post questioned why Mayor Vincent Gray's administration appeared to be pushing for a company that submitted a more expensive bid to mow grass on district property. The Gray administration responded that it was trying to promote local businesses. The two companies are each under contract, working in different portions of the district.
The hearing is intended to clarify how those contracts were awarded.
