Weather service accidentally sends wrong tornado warnings
October 26, 2011 - 04:08 pm
The National Weather Service says three tornado warnings that have been issues for the mid-Atlantic region are not valid.
In an email to media, the weather service explained the false warnings resulted from a test that was accidentally sent out as an active alert.
...test weather warnings that were labeled as tests, but improperly coded as active warnings, were inadvertently distributed to subscribers of the weather wire and emergency management news wire. Though the messages were clearly labeled as a test, they should not have been distributed outside the agency, the note said.
Disregard any tornado warnings in the mid-Atlantic region today.
