Dumfries food pantry to reopen sooner than planned

DUMFRIES, Va. (AP) - A Prince William County food pantry is reopening earlier than planned after receiving a large amount of food and cash donations.
Action in Community Through Service shut the doors of its Dumfries food pantry this week due to an increase in demand and a lack of donations. It had planned to reopen on Nov. 1. But Rebekah McGee, the group's emergency assistance program director, says donations poured in after people learned of the group's problems and the pantry is now reopening on Tuesday.
McGee tells The Washington Post that the food pantry has received $55,000, as well as pounds of food donations this week.
The food pantry serves about 4,000 people per month.
