Fire prompts outages in Alexandria, closes courthouse
October 6, 2011 - 09:31 am
A fire in Old Town Alexandria early this morning damaged Dominion Power’s equipment and underground cables, prompting power outages in the area, company officials say.
Flames broke out near the intersection of King and South Royal streets Thursday morning.
While utility crews are on the scene making repairs, Dominion had to shut off electricity to customers in the 300, 400 and 500 blocks of King Street and the 100 block of Pitt Street.
The outage has closed the Alexandria Courthouse today, and is expected to affect several businesses, including Hotel Monaco, in the area.
Repairs are expected to last throughout the day.
