First phase of Dulles Metro project could go $150M over budget
WASHINGTON (AP) - The executive director of the Metrorail extension to Dulles Airport says the first phase of the project could run as much as $150 million over budget.
Pat Nowakowski told the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority board on Wednesday that the initial phase is close to coming in at its $2.8 billion price tag. Nowakowski provided the $150 million figure when asked for the worst-case scenario for going over budget.
The first phase of the project is scheduled to be finished in the summer of 2013, but the project's contractor has already warned that construction issues could delay completion well into 2014. Nowakowski says his team is working to lessen overruns and predicted that the contractor would report a shorter delay in a report next month.
