Frederick delays digital emergency system
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - Frederick County says plans to transition the county's emergency communications system from analog to digital will be delayed.
Jack Markey, director of the county Division of Emergency Management, says officials hope to have the new digital system in place in May. Officials had initially sought to have the system tested and online by the end of the year.
The Frederick News-Post reports the $18.3 million project is intended to address coverage and efficiency problems (http://bit.ly/nEdL0z).
The project was dealt with a setback in July when the county's Board of Zoning Appeals denied a request to build a 190-foot tower in Hill Street Park in west Frederick. Officials have yet to secure a new location for a tower.
