Gary Giordano's lawyer files appeal for release

ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AP) - A lawyer for a U.S. man detained in Aruba in the presumed death of his travel companion has filed an appeal for his release.
Aruban attorney Michael Lopez says he asked a court to immediately release Gary Giordano. Lopez said in a statement Tuesday he asked for the court to at least free his client pending any trial.
Giordano is being held on suspicion of involvement in the presumed death of 35-year-old Robyn Gardner of Frederick.
Her body has not been found. Giordano denies wrongdoing and says Gardner was swept out to sea while snorkeling.
A judge last month rejected a previous appeal of his detention order. Prosecutors plan to seek to extend the order when it expires later this month.
