Teen nearly abducted in Oakton
A 16-year-old girl was nearly abducted on her way to school Tuesday morning, police say.
The girl reported being grabbed by a man as she walked to school along Blake Lane on Tuesday around 6:30 a.m. She told police she was approaching the intersection of Palmer Street when she noticed a man standing on the sidewalk in front of her. The man started talking to her and asked her to get into his car, but she refused.
As she started to walk away, the suspect grabbed her and attempted to force her into his car. The victim was able to break free and run.
Tuna Norwood always talks to her young children about this type of dangerous encounter.
"It's always something you tell them to be vigilant... My daughter will be a walker to Oakton too," she said. Norwood admits being scared herself when walking alone around the area late at night.
"I get spooked around Oakton, very poor lighting,” she said.
The suspect was described as possibly Hispanic, in his early to mid-20s, 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 9 inches tall with a thin build, and short, black hair. He had an eyebrow piercing and two piercings in his left ear. He was wearing blue jeans and a short-sleeve shirt.
The suspect's vehicle was described as a white, four-door, sub-compact, with a "Baby-on-board" sign on the driver's side.
"I was just be kind of freaked out... Kind of ruins the community atmosphere,” said Mae McIver, a resident.
"I as a mother would never allow her to walk to school... when it's dark,” said Kathy Elliott.
