Hero cabbie helps police nab suspect
October 12, 2011 - 06:02 pm
A Hagerstown cab driver is being credited with turning one of her customers into police.
Police say the customer had just assaulted two women and tried to get a ride in Kathy Rhodes’ cab.
She says the story began when the suspect, Juan Rivera, demanded she drive him from Waynesboro, Pa., to a Hagerstown House. There, she says, he broke in - and she called 911.
Through a window, she could see him assaulting two women, she said.
After the alleged assault, he returned to her cab and, for more than 20 minutes, they drove around. A police dispatcher, however, was guiding her to a McDonald's, where police intercepted them.
