Jessica Peavy faces sentencing in death of daughter
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — The mother of a baby girl who was fatally abused by the child's father faces sentencing in Frederick for failing to protect her daughter.
Twenty-one-year-old Jessica Peavy of Hopatcong, N.J., is scheduled for sentencing Thursday morning.
She pleaded guilty in September to second-degree child abuse stemming from the death of 2-year-old Lexi Zirinsky. The girl died last November when the family was living in Brunswick.
Twenty-six-year-old Jason Zirinsky is serving a 30-year sentence for child abuse resulting in death. Court records describe multiple injuries, inflicted over a number of weeks.
Frederick County State's Attorney Charlie Smith has said the state will seek one year of incarceration with 14 years suspended. He says prosecutors also will ask for supervised probation with drug treatment.
