October 13, 2011 - 05:45 pm
The Metro Board approved a split of the Blue Line at its Thursday meeting, opening more options for people riding into the District.
Metro also discussed possible changes to its fare structure.
The chaos that ensued after a person was struck by a train Tuesday was not on the board’s agenda. Metro general manager Richard Sarles started am internal review.
When safety mechanisms stopped escalators due to overcrowding, thousands had to walk up 170 stairs. Some riders ended up with oxygen masks and on gurneys.
Sarles said when the review is complete the full board will be advised.
Board member Mary Hynes, who represents Arlington, said riders should rest assure it will happen.
