Metro increasing patrols at Suitland station after robberies
SUITLAND, Md. (AP) - Metro says it is increasing patrols after a series of armed robberies in the parking garage of the Suitland station.
The transit agency says in a news release that the most recent incident involved an attempted armed robbery Thursday morning in the garage's second level.
Metro says armed robberies happened on Sunday and Monday evenings on different levels of the garage. Other armed robberies happened on Sept. 27 and Sept. 30.
Police say in each case, a man with a handgun approached riders, demanded property and fled on foot.
The announcement comes after a man was arrested Tuesday in connection with assaults and robberies of two women near the station.
Prince George's County police say 30-year-old Philip James Fleming of District Heights has been charged with rape and armed robbery.
