Montgomery Co. approves plan for Germantown hospital
GERMANTOWN, Md. (AP) - Montgomery County officials have unanimously approved plans to build a new hospital in Germantown.
The county's planning board greenlighted Holy Cross Hospital's plans to build a six-story, 93-bed hospital on the campus of Montgomery College on Thursday. Hospital officials say they will move ahead to obtain permits to begin construction on the hospital later this year.
The Washington Post reports the facility would be the first new hospital in the county in more than 30 years (http://tinyurl.com/3owzemu).
Planning board spokeswoman Valerie Berton says officials have asked that local roads have enough signs for residents to find the hospital.
The hospital is expected to open in mid-2014.
