New Metro map up for vote by WMATA board
The Metro board will meet Thursday to decide on proposed changes to the rail system's iconic map and the names of several stations.
Greater Greater Washington reports that amongst several changes, Metro's new map will see the names of stations shortened, new icons added to the map and the inclusion of the new, yet-to-be completed Silver Line.
WMATA's recommendation for station name changes include adding "Old Town" to the King Street station's name and "Ballpark" to the Navy Yard station.
The system would also drop "SEU" from the Waterfront station's name. Southeastern University lost its accreditation and closed in 2009, rendering its inclusion in the station name unnecessary.
Metro's new map would also indicate additional rush hour service on the Yellow and Orange Lines and would add symbols to stations near hospitals.
