NewsChannel 8 celebrates 20 years
October 7, 2011 - 05:33 pm
Twenty years ago, WJLA’s sister station NewsChannel8 launched to bring TV viewers in the D.C. area 24-hour news programming.
The station’s first home was a studio in a suburban office park in Springfield, where a team of about 100 people were churning out newscasts.
Some of the journalists who helped launch the station, like anchors Dave Lucas and Melanie Hastings and sports host Glenn Harris are still there.
In 2002, NewsChannel8 merged with ABC7 and moved from Springfield to Rosslyn.
Last year, NewsChannel8 signed a new 10-year agreement with local cable providers Comcast and Cox. It also plans to enter agreements with satellite providers Direct TV and Dish Network.
