PG County schools get grant promoting safety for kids walking, biking to school

LANDOVER HILLS, Md. (AP) - Prince George's County schools are getting a $1.2 million federal grant under the Safe Routes to School program.
Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown will be at Glenridge Elementary School in Landover Hills on Wednesday to talk about the initiative.
The program encourages children in grades K-8 to walk and bike to school. It funds education, engineering and enforcement initiaves to protect children in their daily treks.
Brown will be highlighting how the program will improve pedestrian safety in and around Glendridge and Woodbridge elementary schools.
A total of 10 schools in the county will benefit from the grant.
