Police arrest suspect in Suitland sexual assault
Prince George’s County police have arrested a suspect who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman who was on her way to a Metro station in Suitland.
Police say 30-year-old Philip James Fleming of District Heights, Maryland has been charged with armed robbery and first degree sexual assault. He was arrested on Oct. 7 on an open warrant for armed robbery.
Fleming has been charged with first-degree rape and armed robbery, and being held without bond in connection with the Sept. 27 sexual assault in the 4700 block of Silver Hill Road in Suitland.
On September 27th and then again last week, a man with a black handgun accosted women in the early morning hours as they walked to the Suitland Metro station.
In one case the victim was allegedly groped while in another the suspect allegedly raped her raped. Police say both appear to be crimes of opportunity.
"In both of these instances, it was dark out, early in the morning, they were walking alone," said Prince George’s County police spokeswoman Julie Parker.
Fleming is also a suspect in a Sept. 15th armed robbery near Silver Hill Road and Parkway Terrace Drive. During that incident, a female victim was groped and robbed at gunpoint while walking along Silver Hill Road at approximately 4:45 a.m.
