Victor McEachin charged with stabbing Metro bus driver
A Metro bus driver was stabbed near the Wheaton Metro station early this morning, according to Montgomery County police.
Victor McEachin, 52, of Silver Spring, Md., was charged with assault and possession of marijuana, according to a news release from Montgomery County Police.
At about 12:20 a.m., officers responded to a bus driver who had been stabbed.
The 28-year-old man had been stabbed in the abdomen and left arm and was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Initial investigations revealed the driver had been picking up passengers at the Silver Spring station when he was told by several patrons that a man was masturbating in the back of the bus.
The bus driver asked a female acquaintance to check on the man. The woman saw the man adjusting his clothing at which point the driver asked the man to respect other riders and then drove to the Wheaton Metro.
As the driver approached the Wheaton station, the man came forward and started yelling at the driver.
The argument carried on outside of the bus and passengers, the driver and the woman exited the bus.
The man then attempted to charge at the driver, but the woman placed herself between the man and the driver. The man then tried to punch the woman, but she blocked the punch with her arm.
The man and the driver then got into a fight. It was then that the driver realized he had been stabbed. The man fled and police were called to the scene.
Police placed a lookout for the man based on witness descriptions and found McEachin near University Blvd West and Amherst Avenue. A knife was recovered and he was taken into custody.
