Purple Line given go ahead by federal goverment

Federal officials gave the Maryland Transit Authority the go-ahead Friday to proceed with plans to finalize and develop the Purple Line.
The Washington Post reports that the approval allows the Maryland Transit Authority to proceed with cost estimates, environmental impact studies and construction schedules.
The 16-mile light rail line will eventually connect Bethesda with New Carrollton.
Passenger service is expected to be offered by 2020.
