Correction:
Authorities originally reported that the child in the car is 4 years old. Police have issued a correction to say that the child is 2. This story has been updated.
A suspect in brief kidnapping and car theft is still at large Monday after he allegedly sped off with a vehicle with a small child in the back seat, Fairfax County Police say.
Police say that a mother left her 2006 Honda Pilot running outside a home in the 7500 block of Murillo Street in Springfield on Sunday afternoon with her 2-year-old son in the back.
She says that when she went back outside, she saw the car being driven down the road. Authorities and neighbors found the child unharmed at the intersection of Backlick Road and Leesville Boulevard a few minutes later.
The car and the suspect are still at large. The suspect is described as a white male in black sweatshirt. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Solvers or Fairfax County Police.
