Steven Alan Belkov Jr., Waldorf man struck, killed while crossing highway in LaPlata

A 31-year-old Waldorf man was struck and killed while illegally crossing a highway in LaPlata.

Authorities say Steven Alan Belkov Jr. was crossing the southbound lanes of Route 301 near Oriole Lane when he was hit Sunday night. He was taken to Civista Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police say there is no crosswalk on the roadway where Belkov was crossing.

The driver of the striking vehicle, Nelson Lara Jr., 27, also of Waldorf, and a passenger, James Thomas Abell Jr., 25, of LaPlata, were not injured in the crash.

It’s unclear if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
