Teddy Deavers arrested, charged in attempted copper theft
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — Frederick police say a burglary suspect called them to ask for a ride home after he spent five hours out in the cold.
Police said Sunday that they took 24-year-old Teddy Deavers into custody instead.
The Gaithersburg man was being held Monday on burglary and conspiracy charges and couldn't be reached for comment. Court records didn't list a defense attorney.
Police say Deavers and three others were spotted stealing copper from a construction site late Saturday night.
Officers quickly caught three of the men. But they say Deavers remained at large until nearly 5 a.m., when he called police from a gas station and demanded a ride home.
They say Deavers complained that he was cold and wet. Overnight temperatures were in the upper 40s.
