The crippling cost of student loans
This generation of students has achieved a dubious distinction of being the most indebted for the college degree.
Total U.S. debt for student loans now tops $1 trillion.
And in 2010 the average annual student loan amount totaled nearly five thousand dollars. That's up 63 percent in 10 years.
The National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators wants students to know college is increasingly expensive but is still worth the investment.
“They do have federal student aid available to them, that comes in forms of grants and loans,” said Megan McClean, a financial aid expert.
State department employee Jennifer King says working for the government helped pay off her student loans. Another way she got help? Being a member of the armed services.
“I believe in working for the military, and that's the way to get college money,” King said
